Private lessons are an opportunity for growth and development that every musician should consider. Often the difference between an adequate musician and the superior musician is the private lesson. Lesson are also a commitment and investment – of your time, energy, and focus. To get the most out of private lessons it is important to remember that the progress from lessons doesn’t come purely from the contact time with the instructor. The commitment to daily, focused practice on the concepts that were covered that week is what truly makes the difference. You should plan to commit at least 20 minutes (beginner) to 2 hours (advanced) of practice per day in addition to the weekly scheduled lesson.
Horn - Trumpet - Voice - Music Theory and Composition - Ear Training and Sight Singing
A typical lesson will comprise of warm up exercises, technique work through exercises and etudes, musical concepts through characteristic studies, and repertoire work. Time during the lesson is flexible and will be divided up in accordance to your individual goals. Are you working on auditions for All-State or preparing for college? We can spend more time on your audition materials, scales, and sight reading. Time in instrumental and vocal lessons can also be spent on music theory and ear training concepts and vice versa.
Private lessons in theory, ear training and sight singing will feature an indepth look at the concepts of music theory as they apply to composition and analysis. Time will be spent in the early lessons assessing strengths and weaknesses so that a comprensive, individual curriculum can be built. Students will use the piano to solidify and apply concepts taught in the lessons.
